The $4000 custom

So in trying to prove that you dont have to spend $25k to have a bike built by Retro Superbike, we have embarked on our $4000 build up of a Ducati S4R.

Starting with a clean, used S4R, we start by stripping the bike naked and get to cleaning it up! Smog and all the junk fell on the floor, as did the sound deadener, airbox, charcoal canister, extra rubber hoses, zip ties and cable holders.

Out comes the engine, and it gets stripped in preperation for a refinish. All the chassis bits get a good cleaning, and get lubed prior to reassembly. The wiring harness likewise will get cleaned up and pared down, to eliminate all the extras, like turn signals and the horn.

The frame will recieve a tail chop and fabricated tail light mount/plate holder, and the bike will be fit with some of the finest bits from Speedy Moto – Pressure plate, water pump cover, etc. We wanted to do something a bit different with the wheels and found a set of original 1994 Ducati 916 wheels sitting in a corner of the shop from a project bike of years gone by. They get pressed into duty, being done in red to match the frame. Some rotors from Brake tech, and a couple of slight color changes, and she is ready to go…

Total build time is 3 weeks, total cost is about $4k.. Not just a clean, slick custom, but a RetroSBK custom.
